Volume 28, No . 1. May 1997
The Founding of Paradise Valley
Paradise:
It means different things to different people. Those who cho se to live in the Town of Paradise Valley were especially aware of
what the area did for them. They wanted to preserve it for themselves and the coming generations. We owe a big THANKS to those
who persevered to maintain the one house per acre and no commercial businesses (except what was already established prior to
incorporation).
Look around you: The acacia , cassia, greasewood and brittlebush are blooming. The palo verdes and the mesquites will soon
follow. Rabbits, quail, and the harris ground squirrels are scurrying about their spring activities. The mockingbirds are proudly
singing their messages night and day. The coyotes seem more vocal of late. (Keep your cats and small dogs in at night). OH, the big
sky and the wonderful spaciousness of it all!
Ifit had not been for the foresight of those living here in the late 50's and early 60's we would be living in homes crowded close
together with high walls dividing them. This would have been an area where many commercial centers, excessive noises, and bright
lights would have prevented our seeing the stars or hearing nature's s ounds.
In the Spring of 1889, the government sent three surveyors: Sam Symonds, Prosper P. Parker, and Augustus C. Sheldon to
survey this area. They were so impressed by the flowering -----------------------vegetation and the peacefulness they named the area Paradise
Valley and so indicated it on their maps.
All was not always peaceful in Paradise Valley. When people
began settling in this area and enjoying the spaciousness and
peace, others saw this as an opportunity to DEVELOP.
(continued on page 2)
INSIDE
PAGE
Founder's Day .......................................................... 2-3
Revised Town General Plan ..................................... 4
Wireless Communication Facilities .......................... 5
CPR Certification Classes ........................................ 6
Neighborhood Watch Program ................................. 7
